Do You own a MacBook but love gaming? Well, I got a solution for you. Today I'll show you not only how I run Fortnite on MacBook Pro but all high-End graphic games & not only that I'll also show you how I use MacBook Pro with eGPU to record & stream my games.

I bought MacBook Pro many years ago & my background was with Windows & I still remember not using my MacBook for years & years because I was so used to Windows. The only reason I bought the MacBook Pro because of the Hype & I started regretting buying this expensive machine.

I use to think a lot about how can I use this MacBook Pro so I don't have these regrets. Well, luckily then I heard about eGPU. I researched more & more & I find out that people are using eGPU'S with MacBooks as well. This was interesting to me because I already own a gaming machine & I was looking for a dual PC setup for streaming & this whole eGPU hype got me thinking if people can play games using MacBook then can you stream on it as well? I researched a lot but I couldn't find anyone using MacBook Pro with eGPU for streaming.

Macbook 12 update. So I thought let's buy the eGPU & try it for myself.

3d modelling software for mac free. Before I continue it's important that I let you know what parts I've used for this setup which made me able to play Fortnite on MacBook Pro.

Here is the list:

MacBook Pro (2015 Model) – Link

Razer Core X Chroma – Link

Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter – Link

BenQ Full HD Monitor – Link

GeForce RTX 2070 – Link

Any MacBook?

Yes, you can use any Mac for this setup but you just need to look at what Thunderbolt your Mac has. If it has Thunderbolt 3 then you don't have to buy an adapter but if it has Thunderbolt 2 then you have to purchase Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter which you can buy from this link.

Let's talk about each device & part I'm using for this setup before we dive deep into combining everything together.

MacBook Pro

I'm using MacBook Pro 2015 model for this setup so means that I got thunderbolt 2 & it also means that I've to purchase Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter.

Here's an image of my MacBook Pro 2015 model.

Razer Core X Chroma

I researched a lot for the best eGPU money can buy & I found Razor Core X Chroma which is the best eGPU in the market at the time of writing this article. Razer Core X Chroma comes with a USB-C cable which is ideal for Thunderbolt 3. So it's important that you check your MacBook what Thunderbolt it has. You can check this eGPU on Amazon via this link.

Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter

As mention above if you're using MacBook which has Thunderbolt 2 then you have to purchase an Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter but if your MacBook has Thunderbolt 3 then you're good to go because Razer Core X Chroma comes with USB-C which you can connect with Thunderbolt 3.

Monitor

You have to have external Monitor for this setup to work. If you want to use MacBook display for this setup then I really do not recommend it & the reason is because the performance will be very poor. Your MacBook has to work twice to encode the game to the monitor & there are more tricks to workaround that setup so give yourself a favour and get external monitor for this setup which has HDMI functionality. VGA doesn't work with Razer Core X Chroma.

Graphic Card

You can use any high-end graphic card with Razer Core X Chroma. I got two graphic cards in hand which are:

GeForce RTX 2070 link

GTX 960 link

I utilize these both cards very well when it comes to gaming & streaming. I got a custom gaming PC as well which I use most of the time for daily tasks & gaming but playing games & streaming on a single PC is quite a load & this is where you can utilize the spare graphic card & a laptop or a MacBook in my case but the pre-build graphic card in MacBook 2015 is not quite good so this is where eGPU comes in action where you can really take quite more from your MacBook.

Fortnite on MacBook Pro

Let's put everything together & we'll play Fortnite on MacBook Pro using eGPU.

Step 1: Install Windows 10 on MacBook Pro

Install Windows 10 on MacBook Pro using Bootcamp which you will find in your MacBook Pro settings option.

Bootcamp makes it so simple to install Windows 10 on MacBooks. You just need an ISO file of Windows 10 which you can find using this link.

Save the ISO file in your MacBook Pro & locate the file using Bootcamp & you're good to go from there.

Step 2: Setting Up an eGPU

Fortnite Download On Macbook Pro

Insert your Graphic card of choice in the eGPU & do not plug the Thunderbolt cable as yet.

Important Step: Plug Thunderbolt immediately after power-on when there is a Chime noise.

Make sure you only plug the thunderbolt cable which you power on the MacBook & you hear a Chime Noise if not then your eGPU might not work properly & it will get you issues. I discovered this trick after 6 months of research & stress with pain but finally, I figured this out somehow from doing online research.

Windows will start normally & you should see under Windows Task manager that there is a new GPU (Depends on which one you're using with eGPU). Razer Core X Chroma will install some of the drivers so make sure you're connected with the internet.

Step 3: Setting up the external Monitor with an eGPU.

Plug your external Monitor with an eGPU & choose that Monitor as your default display so when you run the game it runs automatically on that Monitor. You also need to visit your graphic card manufacturer's website to download the latest drivers.

Using MacBook Pro for Streaming

Another great way to utilize this setup is by using the eGPU & the graphic card for streaming on Twitch or YouTube. This way you ensure that you have the best possible gaming experience & you leave all encoding tasks for your second PC when it's come to streaming which is in my case is the MacBook Pro with an eGPU.
